Core courses are those all students in Alberta are required to take. These include French Language Arts, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, and Wellness. English Language Arts and Literature instruction begins in grade 3. All other subject areas from kindergarten to grade 6 are taught in French. Courses for study in grades 7 and 8 fall into two categories: core and complementary. Complementary courses are those which complete a student’s program. In grades 7-8, all core subjects are taught in French.
